Big city kids often grow up with a university in their backyard – for Dell City students, a college campus can seem a world away, and that can make the prospect of a college education unnecessarily intimidating for even the most qualified students.
That's one reason it's important our students get opportunities to visit colleges and universities. On Tuesday, the Dell City High Class of 2022 – Esteban Morales and Shania Vargas – traveled to El Paso, to spend the day at UTEP. Math teacher Clement Boakye organized and led the trip – and he said it was a “great experience” that he thought would help encourage and motivate the soon-to-be Cougar grads. A representative of UTEP's admissions department spent time with Shania and Stevie, and described the steps for applying, and for seeking financial aid. The two learned about how to transfer credit from dual-credit courses, and they took an hour-long tour of the campus, visiting departmental buildings, the university museum and more.
A big thanks to Mr. B for organizing the trip – and best wishes to Stevie and Shania as they make their plans for the next stage of their lives!
