DPS Trooper Mike Schulze, a friend to the school and the entire community, was recognized at the Dell City ISD school board meeting last week. Mike joined us virtually, and two of Mike's colleagues – DPS Sgt. Eric Lopez and Trooper Vince Lujan – were on-hand to accept a plaque in his honor.

Supt. Ruben Cervantes and Principal Carlos A. Contreras both praised Mike's service to the school and the community.

“He's a close friend to this district,” Cervantes said, “and a close friend of all of ours personally. And he's a true friend. I've been here three years, and I've learned: this man is amazing.”

“We're blessed to know you,” Contreras told Mike, who attended the presentation via Zoom.

Among many other aspects of his service in the region, Mike has been Dell City ISD's school resource officer for years. Sgt. Lopez said that for Mike that work “wasn't a task,” and that “Dell City has always been a jewel to Mike.”

Mike was moved by the presentation, and said the plaque was the “most special award” he'd received.

Mike continues to receive treatment in Dallas.

We're with you, Mike! And we can't wait to have you back out west!
