Cougar Students Head to San Angelo for Regional UILs
Dell City High School students had a strong showing at the recent district academic UIL meet – and six Cougar scholars qualified to travel to the upcoming regional competition, scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13, at Angelo State University in San Angelo.
Regional qualifiers include ninth-grader Zechariah Rauch, who took first-place in computer science at the March 25 district meet; senior Reilly Czubinski, who took first in social studies and second in number sense; the team of 10th-graders Kolby Mansell and Tristan Smetak, who took first place in current issues; junior Maxine Burford, who took first place in chemistry; and junior Christian Mendoza, who took fourth in social studies and will travel as an alternate.
The district meet was held on the students' first day back from spring break – on March 25 – and the students and their faculty sponsors had to make a very early departure, leaving at 4 a.m. for the event in Fort Davis. But the Cougars were still sharp.
Senior Michelle Burford also placed in the district meet, in calculator applications. In addition to his first-place win in computer science, Zechariah Rauch also placed in current issues, and spelling and vocabulary.
Congratulations, Cougar scholars, on the district meet – and best of look in San Angelo!
