Students, Parents Attend Family Reading Night – Casino-Themed “Math Night” Is Dec. 13
The Dell City School hosted a “Family Reading Night” Nov. 15, and students, staff and parents and family members came together in Cougar Gym to enjoy the pleasures of reading.
The event had a camp-out theme, with tents set up in the darkened gym and s'mores and hot chocolate for the participants. About two dozen Dell City School parents and family members attended, and students took turns reading to one another around the “campfire.” About 20 students participated, and students who read to their peers included Aurora Bell, Luis Ayala, Iris Ayala, Kortney Burford, Jose McCray, Nicole Martos and Rhiannon Muise, among others. In addition to the camp-out snacks, the junior class operated a concession stand.
Principal Carlos Contreras said the event was “very successful” – and served to create enthusiasm for reading and to connect students and family members with the school and with literacy.
The school will host a Family Math Night in the gym on Thursday, Dec. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. The gym will become a “casino” for the evening, with games designed to strengthen math awareness and math literacy. All students and family members are invited to attend!
