Andrew Stuart - Communications Director
Dell City ISD's Communications Director, Andrew Stuart is a writer and journalist who loves the desert-mountain country of rural West Texas, and the people who live here. Mr. Stuart joined the Dell City School staff in 2016. He brings years of journalism experience to the work of informing – and celebrating – the Cougar Community.
Andrew Stuart – Drew – was raised in Austin, graduated from Brown University in Rhode Island, and lived in Kentucky, California and India before an epiphany prompted him to move,, in 2000, to the spaciousness and beauty of rural Far West Texas. He was a staff writer at The Desert-Mountain Times newspaper in Alpine and the news director, and a founding employee, at Marfa Public Radio. He moved to Hudspeth County in 2009, and was the editor of the Hudspeth County Herald for seven years. His primary residence is a cabin in the desert, 25 miles from Dell City. Mr. Stuart is also a guitar player and singer, a hiker and a river enthusiast – he's worked as a whitewater rafting guide in Colorado.
As Dell City ISD's communications director, Mr. Stuart maintains the district website's and social media, produces the school newspaper, and writes about, and photographs, events and people at the school, among other duties. Mr. Stuart said that spending time on campus – with young people, and the adults who've dedicated their lives to educating them – is good for the soul.
