Districts may hire independent contractors for an expertise or service that cannot be provided by other employees including the following: Interpreters for the hearing-impaired, Physical therapists, Psychologist or diagnosticians. In addition, outside consultants may be contracted to provide training, conduct management studies, or write curriculum guides. Private businesses hired for particular services also may be considered independent contractors. For example, a district my hire a private firm for security, custodial, maintenance, transportation, or trash removal services. In these cases, the workers acutally are employed by the contractor and not the district.
